The TJ Johnson Quartet:TJ Johnson is a piano player and singer and is widely considered to be one
of the UK’s most charismatic and highly revered jazz & blues entertainers
Backed by some of the best jazz musicians in the country, TJ plays an
extraordinary blend of music that blurs the boundaries of Jazz, Blues,
Country and Gospel and is influenced by some of the greats such as Ray
Charles, Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Willie Nelson, BB King, Nina Simone,
Alberta Hunter, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Witherspoon and many more. His
distinctive voice and unique personal stage manner bring both the band
and the audience together to create an intimate yet exciting atmosphere
that is rarely equalled.
With effortless Swing and Soul, TJ combines lyrical piano playing with an
expressive, understated vocal style
He is a hot piano player and respected bandleader.
He started impressing audiences on the Jazz scene in the late 80’s as a Jazz
Singer with The Max Collie Rhythm Aces at the age of 17 and since forming
his own band in 1990 has performed and toured extensively for almost forty
years now at many Theatres, Festivals, Jazz clubs and venues both in the
UK and overseas.
Across his prolific career, TJ has released and featured on a multitude of
albums, both with The TJ Johnson Band and Bourbon Kick, also solo
recordings, and featuring as a sideman with the likes of Max Collie.
