About this Event

Margaret Phillips makes a welcome return to play at Christ Church. She is a highly-respected performer, teacher and examiner, and her programme will explore all the beautiful colours of the Christ Church organ in music by Scheidt, Gladwin, Handel, Berg, Guilain, Marsh and Bach including several settings of the Magnificat.

The internationally renowned Richard Bridge Organ was installed in Hawksmoor’s architectural masterpiece in 1735. Bridge was one of the leading craftsmen of the era and his masterpiece for Christ Church Spitalfields was the largest organ in England at the time fully encapsulating in both appearance and sound the musical culture of the Baroque.

Until it was fully restored in 2015, very few people had heard the brilliance of this instrument. With an exciting programme every season, you can now step back in time and hear this unique instrument for yourself.
