Join Ōrākei Local Board and passionate nature advocates Mandy Kupenga & Cassie Roma for a heart-led afternoon celebrating the people, projects, and possibilities nurturing the whenua and wai of the local board area. Whether you’re simply curious, deeply passionate, or ready to roll up your sleeves, this is your invitation to connect, learn, and be part of something bigger.
Spend the afternoon surrounded by caregivers, changemakers, and everyday heroes who are quietly (and not so quietly) restoring and protecting our environment. Hear inspiring kōrero from local speakers, experience short environmental films, and meet the incredible groups already doing meaningful work in our community.

• VR (Virtual reality) experiences exploring our marine and forest environments
• Hands-on displays including trapping, planting, eco-living and more

• Light refreshments to enjoy along the way
🎬 Film highlights:
• Heal the Hauraki – powerful local storys featuring inspiring people & communities creating change for the restoration and protection of the Hauraki Gulf.
• Think Like a Forest – a 2025 NZ documentary following the Recloaking Papatūānuku movement to restore over 2 million hectares of native forest through regenerative, nature-based solutions.
🗣️ Featured speakers include:
Jessica Hiscox (Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei) – a passionate kaitiaki sharing insights into local restoration plans and the innovative use of technology alongside mātauranga Māori.
Hugo Geddes (Auckland Council) – offering a fascinating bird’s-eye view of our natural spaces through drone technology used to monitor and protect special reserves.
This forum is about connection — between people, place, and purpose. It’s about celebrating what’s already happening, learning from one another, and discovering how each of us can play a part in caring for Te Taiao.
