This instance of ääneen brings Marja Ahti to the new space. She will perform her piece "Touch This Fragrant Surface of Earth" for four-channel tape, live electronics, and amplified objects. The piece was premiered last year in Chicago, and has since been performed in Edition Festival VII and Sanitarium of Sound. Now Äänen Lumo brings the piece to Finland, where it has never been publicly performed before.As the opening act of the evening we will have a duo formed
by mevlido and Sulo Kolehmainen. They will perform an improvised set which examines the relationship of silence and noise with a Serge synthesizer, amplified objects and a computer carrying Max/MSP.

Marja Ahti (b. 1981) is a Swedish-Finnish composer and sound artist based in Turku, Finland. Ahti works with field recordings and other acoustic sound material combined with synthesizers and electronic feedback in order to find the space where these sounds start to communicate. She makes music that rides on waves of slowly warping harmonies and mutating textures – rough edged, yet precise compositions, rich in detail.

mevlido is a practitioner of sonic arts dedicated to reinterpreting nature as an expressive medium. His work explores a state of listening that shifts between the real and the ineffable, his practice invites audiences to reconsider their relationship between sound and the environment.

Sulo Kolehmainen is an improviser and a sound artist currently based between Helsinki and Venezia who usually works with nonlinear feedback systems, field recordings and sonic material often categorised as "unwanted". His engagement with sound often deals with memory, agency and inquiries about how the human condition and the so called natural world wrap around each other.
