About this Event
Xinachtli Freedom Campaign Presents: ¡Tierra y Libertad!
Join us for an evening of radical art and history as we fundraise for Second Ward’s own Chicano Indigenous political prisoner Xinachtli. Xinachtli is a lifelong organizer fighting against racist state violence of Black, Indigenous, and Chicano people. Xinachtli helped free Ricardo Adalpe Guerra from death row after Guerra was accused of killing an HPD officer, helped negotiate truces between Pasadena street gangs, and helped win the landmark Ruiz v. Estelle case reforming Texas prisons in 1992. In 1996, Xinachtli was targeted by the state and later wrongfully imprisoned for defending himself against a sherrif who tried to K*ll him. He has spent the last 23 years in solitary confinement, where he continues to organize as a jailhouse lawyer and organizer for his own liberation and the freedom of others.
Xinachtli’s next parole hearing is December 2027. In preparation for his hearing, the XFC is hosting this fundraiser to help cover legal and organizing costs. This event will feature a workshop on radical print-making by local artist Royal Sumikat, tabling from community organizations, a film screening of the documentary Young Lords: Takeover, and a discussion on how we defend our barrio today as ICE terrorizes our community.
