BON VOYAGE BENEFIT | Sophia's Daughter Concert
Newark Culture Club resident vocalist, Sophia's Daughter, is leaving us for FRANCE! Join us to wish her Bon Voyage! as she closes her 2-year fundraising campaign for the trip of a lifetime. Sophia's Daughter will complete a 3-week artist residency in Paris, France, this summer.
Weaving live music, theatre, and poetry, Sophia's Daughter brings Haitian Heritage and sophisticated talent to the Newark Culture Club Saturday, May 23rd at 8 p.m.

Meliq the Plant Poet
Meliq August, aka Meliq the Plant Poet, is a Belizean-American, queer, non-binary earthworker and budding herbalist, multi-disciplinary artist, and transformative educator. Hailing from North Bergen, NJ, they are now paving the way with their robust talents in the city of Newark through healing avenues stemming from an Afro-Indigenous framework of thought. With a collegiate background in sociology and photography, Meliq focuses on the intersectionality of identity as well as their lanes of expertise to shake and make a difference in the community. Through their artistry and activism, Meliq strongly focuses on the upliftment and empowerment of Black, Indigenous, Trans, and Queer peoples, as well as all other historically marginalized communities.
