About this Event
In this beginner-friendly sewing workshop, you’ll cut and sew a 7" x 7" lined fabric bag with a 10" zipper—in the shape of your choice: a frog, kitty cat, or bear.
You’ll choose your design, lay out your pattern, cut your fabric, and construct your bag step-by-step. You’ll also learn how to install a zipper, and you’ll leave with a fully finished bag to keep or gift. Each participant will take home a printed pattern, so you can continue making more at home!
This workshop requires a basic working knowledge of how to operate a sewing machine.
If you’d like to take this workshop but have no machine experience, please join one of our Open Sew events first—we’ll get you oriented and ready. (See our Event Calendar for dates: https://ashevilletoollibrary.org/events-calendar/)
What to Bring
Two pieces of woven fabric (no knits or heavy fabrics), each at least 12" x 20"
One piece for the outside & One for the lining
A small scrap for the animal face details (cat or bear)
If you have questions about fabric suitability, please reach out to our Art Balcony Coordinator:

Equitable Access
We believe everyone deserves access to hands-on learning opportunities, regardless of income. That’s why each workshop includes a limited number of Equitable Access seats.
To help us share these opportunities widely:
- Each participant may claim an Equitable Access seat once per quarter (every three months).
- These seats are first-come, first-served and limited by class size.
- If you’ve already used an equitable seat this quarter, please register at full price so others can benefit.
Please only claim these tickets if cost is truly a barrier for you — this helps ensure that those who need the support most can take part.
