Zines as Self Expression Workshop Series

Zines as Self Expression is a five week workshop with the goal of teaching students how to unlock their creativity with the infinite possibilities of zines. This workshop is perfect for all skill levels, from the budding artist to the trained professional. If you’re zine-curious, this is the workshop for you!
Each week, students will make a single sheet folded zine (classic “punk” style) with guided instruction on the content. Lessons primarily focus on a specific aspect of zine making, primarily visual and written form, and will ask students to use their own thoughts, experiences, and interests for their inspiration. Each lesson will start with a brief lecture on the assignment, and a guided brainstorming activity to help students plan for their zine. The rest of class will be studio time with check ins. At the end of class, students can either turn in their finished zine, or continue working on it for next week. At the end of the workshop, students will turn in their best zine to be reproduced and shared with all students in the class in a zine swap and celebration of their work!
Bringing your own art supplies and tools is encouraged! (Paper and basic materials will be provided)
