About this Event
Zero Gravity is a tribute to the boundless imagination, spiritual depth, and fearless creativity of —one of the most visionary composers in Jazz history. From his groundbreaking work with Art Blakey and the Miles Davis Quintet to his genre-defying innovations with Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, and Weather Report, Shorter spent his life pushing beyond musical, cultural, and spiritual boundaries. But Wayne’s greatest gift may have been his ability to embrace uncertainty. He often spoke about stepping into the unknown with curiosity rather than fear—treating music as an adventure in trust, imagination, and collective listening. His compositions like Footprints, Speak No Evil, Infant Eyes, and Juju continue to invite musicians and audiences alike into deeper realms of wonder. This concert explores Shorter’s music through the theme of zero gravity—a state where fear, ego, and limitation lose their hold, and creativity becomes weightless. Through live performance, storytelling, and reflection, we’ll celebrate Wayne’s enduring legacy and ask what it means for us to live with greater courage, connection, and imagination today. Join us for an evening of transcendent music as we honor an artist who taught the world that jazz is not just something you play—it’s a way of becoming more human.
THE COLLECTIVE: We are a community of Bay Area Jazz musicians, lovers, and advocates seeking to awaken more beauty, love, and justice for the world through Jazz.
