Join us for an evening of outstanding jazz as the YSU Jazz Ensemble pays tribute to Chuck Mangione and Eddie Palmieri and premieres new work by graduate student Andrea Richard. On Monday, November 24, 2025, at 7:30pm, the YSU Jazz Studies Area will present the Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Kent J. Engelhardt in the Ford Theater of Bliss Hall.
The concert will open with “Children of Sanchez,” honoring Chuck Mangione, a key initiator of the Tony Leonardi Jazz Scholarship at YSU. The program continues with “Consummation” by Thad Jones, featuring Stephen Enos, YSU’s new jazz trumpet instructor. Vocalist Lizzie Jadue will perform “Almost Like Being In Love” by Lerner & Loewe, “Walkin’ My Baby Back Home” as recorded by Natalie and Nat King Cole, and will close her set with Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas.”
The ensemble will also premiere a new arrangement of “Turbo” by Cory Wong, arranged by graduate student Andrea Richard, followed by “Chase The Clouds Away” by Chuck Mangione. The concert concludes with “Palmas,” a mambo tribute to Latin jazz innovator Eddie Palmieri.
