About this Event

YSPN is hosting a webinar to unpack the complexities around the second round of Farmers' Protests in India which began on February 13, 2024.

Despite living abroad, we know much of our YSPN community is deeply impacted by the events in India. This is why we've put together a panel of incredible people with diverse insights on the current movement:

Smita Sharma: An award winning Independent Journalist/Columnist and TV Commentator in India. She reports in Hindi and English on foreign policy and security issues. She was the Contributing Editor for India Ahead News and hosted a daily show People's Editor focusing on issues that affect ordinary citizens, policy matters, legislations and more. She also hosted the Media Buddhi video series in Hindi for Boom focusing on fake news, misinformation, newsroom models and challenges for the press.

Navyug Gill: A historian specializing in modern South Asia and global history. Currently Navyug is a Associate Professor in the Department of History, Philosophy and Liberal Studies at William Paterson University. His research explores questions of agrarian change, labor politics, caste hierarchy, postcolonial critique and global capitalism.

Saurabh Shukla: A journalist turned Mediapreneur. Saurabh has worked with NDTV as a Special Correspondent and Anchor for nearly 12 years reporting in Hindi and English on sensitive social issues and focusing on political and investigative journalism. He co-founded The Red Mike as a new online centrist platform in December 2023 to tell stories as it is and ask questions to all in power regardless of political affiliations.

Arun Kumar: Retired Professor of Economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Specialisations include Public Finance, Black Economy, Globalization, Macroeconomics.
