About this Event

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches adults how to recognize unique signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use challenges in youth ages 12-18. YMHFA gives you the tools you need to start the conversation and provide initial support to a young person experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.

This course is ideal for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and anyone who works or interacts with young people.

Delivery: In-Person at 1515 Heritage Drive, McKinney, TX 75069 in the Trinity Training Room.

(Trinity Training Room is located upstairs, down the right hallway, and last room on the right.)

You will learn:

  • Common mental health concerns among adults.
  • How to reduce stigma.
  • How to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges.
  • The difference between typical adolescent development and a mental health challenge.
  • A 5-step action plan to help an adult who may be facing a mental health challenge or crisis. Including how to connect them to appropriate help when needed
  • The importance of self-care for the Mental Health First Aider

This is an all-day class presented in person from 9 am until 5 pm with a lunch break that is typically 30 minutes. You may choose to leave for this break, or you can bring lunch.
