Course Details
* Dates: 4th and 5th of June.
* Time: 9am-4:30pm (both days).
* Location: Grafton Regional Gallery.
Cost
* $250 per ticket (includes registration, attendance, all learning materials, MHFA fees, and take-home manual).
* Discounts available for group bookings - automatically available on booking page.
Accreditation
* Upon successful completion of the course, participants will gain a formal 3-year accreditation as a Youth Mental Health First Aider. This includes a certificate of accreditation, issued by Mental Health First Aid Australia.
Learning Outcomes
* Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

* Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in young people.

* Use an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first aid conversation.

* Assess for a range of crisis situations and provide initial support.

* Understand the prevalence and impact of mental illnesses, risk factors and treatments and supports available.

* Distinguish between normal and expected changes during adolescence and development of mental health problems.

* Understand the scope of the Mental Health First Aider role and the medical rights of minors.

* Apply self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider.
Instructor Profile
Dr Abbie Smith is a qualified Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor, high school teacher and current Associate Lecturer at the University of Newcastle. Abbie's doctoral thesis explored teachers' confidence and preparedness to support student mental health issues. The findings from Abbie's research highlighted the urgent need for teacher training to support youth mental health. As a result, Abbie founded Mentally Trained to provide much needed guidance and training to adults wanting to better support the mental health of young people.
