About this Event

This is a BLENDED course meaning that all participants will have to complete 2 hours of pre-learning prior to attending the 4.5 hour in-person portion of the class. Participants will be added to the online portal to do so a week prior to the class date. This is where you will recieve your certification.


This course covers a range of topics related to mental health in youth. The course includes both theoretical learning and practical application through role-playing and group discussions. The program is typically broken into the following key sections:


  1. Introduction to Mental Health in Youth: Definitions of mental health and mental illness.Key statistics on mental health in youth, including prevalence rates and risk factors.
  2. Recognizing Early Signs of Mental Health Struggles: Understanding common mental health disorders in youth, such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. Identifying behavioral and emotional warning signs.
  3. Providing Initial Help and Support: Learning how to listen actively and without judgment. Techniques for offering non-judgmental, supportive conversations.
  4. Guiding Youth to Professional Help:Understanding when and how to refer a young person to a mental health professional. Creating a safety plan and ensuring proper follow-up.
  5. Suicide Prevention and Crisis Management: Identifying signs of suicidal ideation. Steps to take in a crisis situation, including immediate actions and seeking urgent care.
  6. Cultural Considerations and Special Populations:Understanding how cultural differences can influence mental health perceptions and responses. Specific considerations for marginalized or at-risk youth populations, such as LGBTQ+ youth, youth in foster care, or youth with disabilities.
