Youth Learn to Row
Come join us at the Des Moines Rowing Easter Lake Boathouse for our Youth Learn to Row event! This is a fantastic opportunity for young rowing enthusiasts to learn the basics of rowing in a fun and supportive environment. Our experienced coaches will guide participants through the fundamentals of rowing, from proper technique to teamwork. Don't miss out on this exciting chance to get out on the water and discover the thrill of rowing!
One 2-hour morning session, designed to give youth a first taste of the sport. Hosted by the Des Moines Rowing Youth Program at our Easter Lake Boathouse.
Format: We'll start with the basics of the stroke on the erg (rowing machine), rowing terms, coxing, and parts of the boat. From there, we will transition to how to get in and out of the boat and go out on the water in an eight-person boat with a mix of new and experienced rowers. You'll apply the basics you learned on the erg and begin learning to row on the water.
Limitations: Open to youth in Grades 8-12 (ages 12-18). Youth will be required to wear a lifejacket while on the water.
What to Bring: Wear athletic clothing with tennis shoes and socks. If you are wearing shorts do not wear baggy ones as they can get caught on the tracks of the seats. Bring a WATER BOTTLE and sunglasses or a hat.
In Case of Inclement Weather: Coaches will notify of a cancellation via text.
