This class will focus on the basic yet most important techniques when working with clay.
Each student will learn the essential steps while exploring various avenues of how to
make a success ceramic work of art. This class is a project-based course that will rotate
between different methods when working with clay. We will dive into several different
ways to hand-building as well as learning wheel throwing basics. Students will focus on
creating functional forms while also having the opportunity to play with sculptural
aspects too. We will explore decorative techniques through applying color and texture to
put the perfect finishing touches on their clay masterpieces! This class will offer group
demonstrations while offering a lot of hands-on support and activities that are great for
any level of young artists!
No prior experience with clay is needed for this class, just bring your curiosity and be ready to get your hands dirty and have fun! Wear clothes you don't mind getting clay on (it will wash out!) and closed-toed shoes. When working with clay, skip jewelry, roll up your sleeves, tie long hair back, and keep nails trimmed for the best experience. Clay and all tools needed for the class are provided by Paducah School of Art and Design.
