Erin Murphy has served as Minnesota Senate Majority Leader since being elected to the post by her colleagues in February 2024. Since then, she has led her 34-member DFL Caucus with a focus on improving the lives of all Minnesotans.
First elected to the Senate in 2020, Senator Murphy was reelected in 2022. In that time, she also served as an Assistant Majority Leader and chaired the State and Local Government and Veterans Committee. She has been a member of the Finance Committee, the Rules and Administration Committee, the Higher Education Committee. Prior to that, she served six terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives, where she rose to House Majority Leader and served in other leadership positions.
Senator Murphy earned her B.S. in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and her M.S. in Organizational Leadership in health care at the College of St. Catherine. She has been a Policy Fellow at the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota. She and her husband Joe live in St. Paul and have two children.
