NCMS is holding a heat of IOM3's Young Persons Lecture Competition. If you are eligible, please consider entering yourself, or if you know likely competitors within your organisation, please let them know about this opportunity. The aim is to provide an atmosphere of friendly competition for students and early career materials, minerals, mining, scientists, and engineers so that their presentation skills will improve whilst addressing an informed audience.
The Competition is open to all students and early career professionals aged from 18 to 28 or under on 1 June 2026 who have not placed in the top 3 in a previous UK final. If you entered in previous years but did not make the top 3 in the national final and are still eligible, put the valuable lessons learned to use in this year's competition. There is a £100 prize for the winner of the NCMS local heat and £25 for all who present at the heat.
Each competitor in the heat will give a presentation in English lasting between 12 and 15 minutes on a subject of their choice. All entrants must submit their abstracts (150 words max) and details through the IOM3 website: www.iom3.org/events-awards/competitions/yplc.html
Free pizza will be available after the lectures
