In 2024, polio re-emerged in Gaza for the first time in decades. In response, two young Palestinian doctors, Waseem (25) and Majd (29), began working with WHO and CARE-USA to plan a vaccination campaign and help contain the outbreak.
The vaccine can be life-saving - but how do you ensure every child receives three doses when families are displaced, supply chains are disrupted, and communication networks have broken down? And how can this be done while the health system itself is collapsing, amid relentless and unpredictable attacks?
In April this year, with scholarships, Majd and Waseem arrived in Dublin, where they now continue their medical work and studies. This October, they visit Denmark to share first-hand accounts from young doctors at the frontline of a collapsing health system.
In their talk, they explore how vaccination programs can be planned and delivered under crisis conditions - from outbreak response and logistics to the unforeseen challenges that arise along the way.

Hvordan gennemfører man en vaccinationskampagne midt i et udbrud, når hospitaler bliver ødelagt, sundhedssystemet kollapser, og ressourcerne er stærkt begrænsede?
I 2024 blev polio opdaget i Gaza for første gang i årtier. Som svar trådte to unge palæstinensiske læger, Waseem (25) og Majd (29), til for at arbejde sammen med WHO og CARE-USA om at planlægge en vaccinationskampagne og standse udbruddet.
Vaccinen kan redde liv, men hvordan sikrer man, at hvert barn får tre doser, når familier er fordrevet, forsyningskæder brudt sammen, og kommunikationsnetværk ødelagt? Og hvordan gør man det, mens sundhedssystemet selv bryder sammen midt i konstante og uforudsigelige angreb?
I april i år ankom Majd og Waseem til Dublin med stipendier, hvor de nu fortsætter deres medicinske arbejde og studier. Denne oktober besøger de Danmark for at dele deres førstehåndsberetninger fra frontlinjen af et kollapsende sundhedssystem.
I deres oplæg fortæller de, hvordan vaccinationsprogrammer kan planlægges og gennemføres under kriseforhold - fra udbrudsrespons og logistik til de uforudsete udfordringer, der opstår undervejs.
