About this Event

Course Description:

Breathing, swallowing, resting—the simplest habits can have the biggest impact on oral health. You Need to Calm Down and BREATHE Through Your Nose: Practical Screening Techniques for Myofunctional Dysfunction is an interactive, hands-on continuing education workshop designed to help dental professionals recognize, screen, and respond to myofunctional disorders with confidence.

This course begins with an engaging lecture covering the fundamentals of orofacial myofunctional therapy (OMT), the importance of nasal breathing, and how oral muscle dysfunction influences craniofacial development, airway health, orthodontic outcomes, and sleep quality. Participants will then transition into an immersive hands-on session, where they’ll practice screening techniques with peers—learning to identify key clinical signs, assess oral rest posture, and interpret findings.

By the end of this workshop, attendees will have the practical tools to recognize when myofunctional dysfunction is present and confidently determine when to refer to an orthodontist, ENT, or myofunctional therapist for collaborative care.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the relationship between oral muscle function, nasal breathing, and craniofacial development.
  • Identify common signs and symptoms of myofunctional dysfunction during routine dental exams.
  • Demonstrate basic screening techniques for assessing oral posture, swallowing, and breathing patterns.
  • Determine appropriate referral pathways to orthodontists, ENTs, and myofunctional therapists.
  • Integrate airway and myofunctional screening into daily clinical practice for improved patient outcomes.

Who Should Attend: Dentists, dental hygienists, and clinical team members seeking to expand their understanding of airway and myofunctional health through practical, hands-on experience.
