Why do young children imitate their parents even if their parents are the ones who constantly restrict them?
Why does the wrongdoing of someone close to us become embarrassing for us?
Why do we feel hurt when a loved one does something against our wishes?
Why do we seek our loved ones to act as per our wishes?
Why is it that teachers often bear the responsibility to set examples and be more than the subjects they are teaching?
Why do we identify with the film stars and their films even if we know that films are fictional and made for commercial success?
Why do we let political figures represent us even if we know they are most often disguising self-lessness for their petty selfish interests?
Why does humanity believe god looks like us and that humanity is an image of god?
Why do we point at a mirror further away from us and say “That’s me”?
Why do we point at certain things and places outside and yet feel that they represent us?
Why do we seek ourselves in others?
And why do we let others see themselves in us?

Abhishek Kukreja has been academically researching cultural practices and creative expressions. He has taught courses and conducted workshops in screenplay-writing performance-writing culture studies cinematic-art and performance-art at universities like Ambedkar University Delhi AAFT Noida and Amity School of Communication Jaipur.
