About the book
Ever wondered what In Cold Blood would be like if it was written by David Sedaris? OK, Gwyn McAllister is neither the new Capote nor Sedaris – far from it – and she’s not the “master/mistress” of any genre except (maybe) her own twisted brand of dark humor.
The short stories and plays in “You Can Make This Sh*t Up” examine, variously, M**der, matrimonymand a bunch of other very bad choices. (spoiler: there’s a lot of M**der, mostly M**der as a matter ofnfact)
McAllister’s fiction poses questions such as “Whodunnit?”, “Why would anyone do that in the first place?”, “What exactly was done?” and “Why didn’;t I think of doing that before someone beat me to it?”
Also – “Is there such a thing as sociopathy by proxy?”, “What gift does one bring to a combination surprise birthday party/intervention?” And, “In a new relationship is a M**der rap always a red flag?” You’ll either love “You Can Make This Shit Up” or want your money back - and an apology from the author (disclaimer - no money back)
About the author:
Gwyn McAllister is a playwright, journalist and fiction writer living in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City. An equity production of her period farce Passionata enjoyed a three week run at the Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse in the summer of 2018. Gwyn’s series of short plays – Santacide - was produced by FrigidNYC in December 2023 (8 performances).
Gwyn has written over 1,000 articles for various newspapers, magazines and other journals. “You Can Make This Sh*t Up” is her first book. Gwyn is a member of the Actor’s Studio Playwright/Directors Unit and the Dramatists Guild. She is a regular participant in Naked Angels’Tuesdays @ 9 program and has served as a guest playwriting mentor for Naked Angels’ 3T writing program for NYC public high school students.
