Join Professor Robert Mann at the Main Library at Goodwood on Sunday, February 23 at 3 p.m. as he debuts, discusses, and takes questions concerning his new historical work, You Are My Sunshine: The Biography of a Song. In his book, Prof. Mann weaves together the birth of country music, Louisiana political history, World War II, and the American civil rights movement to produce a compelling biography of one of the world’s most popular musical compositions. This is the story of a song that, despite its simple, sweet melody and lyrics, holds the weight of history within its chords. Light refreshments will be served, and copies of the book will be available for sale. Additionally, patrons can pick up sheet music and enjoy a brief introduction to EBRPL’s musical instruction database, Artistworks, available at no cost with your library card.
