About this Event
Join us as we mark the 1815th anniversary of the death of Septimius Severus in Eboracum (Roman York) with a Roman Ramble round the city streets.
On February 4th AD 211, Septimius became the first Roman emperor to die in this far-flung outpost. He would not be the last.
In York: A Roman Ramble we'll explore Eboracum, the frontier army base that grew to become a centre of the Empire. We'll tell remarkable stories of the people who came and lived here, from Arabian priest-queens to lion-battling gladiators, whilst we search for remains of the Roman city.
- The walk starts and finishes by the Roman Column in Minster Yard, and lasts around an hour. Tickets are free to book, but if at the end of the walk you feel it was worth paying for, we are happy to accept donations by cash or card.
