FEATURED TATTOO ARTIST - Chantal Smith
My name is Chantal Smith and I am a New York artist that specializes in tattoos, fine art and design. I have been tattooing for almost 20 years, but I have been drawing, painting, designing, and modeling most of my life. I started working in New Orleans a few years ago at AART ACCENT and it was there that I met YOKO, a magnanimous light and spirit whom quickly became my work bestie. I was very blessed to know and share space with YOKO and every chance that I could spend with them was happy one. YOKO and I would love to talk about our favorite interests of anime, tattoos and art. It was friendship that grew quickly and I was even fortunate enough to attend some of YOKO shows in New Orleans. It was always a pleasure attending YOKO’s performances and be able to have the opportunity to listen and feel Yoko ‘s music while experiencing their energy in real time. It was just one of the many examples of YOKO being such an incredible talent and spirit that I was blessed to have in my life.

It was devastating to have found out that YOKO passed away and there’s still a pain and grief that I will carry with me always. But despite the grief, I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to honor my friend in a special way and let YOKO’s friends and family know how much they’re loved and how much they meant to so many people, including myself. When I was asked to be a part of YOKO FEST I immediately agreed and have been working with YOKO’s family and friends to help make this year’s festival a great one. I miss my friend YOKO a lot, and every day I wish that I could still find a way to connect and be in touch with them. Knowing that I will be able to participate in this festival allows me the opportunity to still be a part of YOKO’s life while doing what we both loved to do very much, making awesome art and kick ass tattoos. It is my pleasure to take part of this year’s first annual YOKO fest. My goals for this year’s YOKO fest is to share space with others while tattooing and to love, honor and uplift my friend that has meant so much to so many beautiful people like themselves. I feel confident in saying that a lot of people all share a similarity in that we loved YOKO and still do and want to celebrate them as best as possible with as many people as possible. YOKO had a way of connecting people together through their music, tattoos and art and I’m proud of carrying their legacy and sharing with others how wonderful of a person they were and what an incredible inspiration they were in my life.
