YNPN Presents Access to Experts: Women's History Month

Please join YNPN Southern Nevada for our first Access to Experts event of 2024! As we close out Women’s History Month, we will have a panel of women in leadership positions discussing Sexism in the Workplace. In this 90 minute session, our panelists will share about their personal experiences, and provide some insight on this important topic.

President, National Association of Asian American Professionals – Chicago

Rose brings over 20 years of work experience in a variety of industries. Currently she serves as the Chicago Chapter President of the National Association of Asian American Professionals, an Asian American leadership organization in the Chicago-land area. NAAAP-Chicago is the third oldest chapter in the national organization, which includes over 25 cities across the United States and Canada. She is the longest serving President for Chicago, the first female elected as National President (2006), as well as the first female elected as National Board Chair (2013). Rose established a successful ERG program, Asian American Group Leaders, and currently boasts a collaboration of over 40 Asian Employee/Business Resource Groups. She also established a Women in Leadership Program now recognized nationally as Women in NAAAP.

Rose has also served as Chairwoman to the Chicago Chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum and the Diversity & Inclusion committee for The Association Forum. She was recognized in 2012 for her contributions to the Chicago Asian Pacific Islander Community by the National Federation of Filipino American Association’s Circle of Empowered Women in the Midwest and received the Filipino American Hall of Fame Award in 2017.

Biography

Joanne Ullman earned a PhD in Experimental Psychology from UNLV in 2017. Prior to that, she achieved a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from Montclair State University and a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Following her undergraduate career, Joanne Ullman worked in various organizational settings in both for-profit and non-profit sectors. Her earlier work experiences included front-line, supervisory, and administrative capacities. She later discovered an interest in human resources operations and successfully secured positions in interviewing, recruiting, training, and benefit administration functions. After obtaining an advanced degree in organizational psychology, she became a leading contributor to job task analysis and performance assessment initiatives.

Expertise

Joanne Ullman has provided consultation services regarding organizational development and process improvement by customizing assessments and interpreting data for stakeholders. In addition, she offers input using her expertise in instructional design. For example, she served the surrounding community by contributing implicit bias lesson materials to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as part of their Use of Force Training. Furthermore, a leading provider and producer of educational videos hired Dr. Ullman as a science writer to create and review informational content in Psychology.

Career & Professional Development Programming Assistant, UNLV

A recent UNLV alumna (Psychology, Anthropology, Japanese B.A. ‘21) pursuing her Master’s degree in Higher Education. Being a multiracial, first generation college student has not only facilitated her ability to connect with fellow students and faculty, but it has also engendered a fascination with the intersections of identity and wellbeing in her local community. Ultimately, by cultivating an inclusive, supportive environment for students to thrive, and by sharing relevant resources, Melikabella hopes to foster access to higher education and healthcare for the increasingly diverse incoming student population within her hometown.
