About this Event
Join us as we explore music that shaped the 20th century. As millions of Jewish immigrants settled in America, Yiddish folk music and Yiddish musical theater thrived, significantly influencing Broadway and The Great American Songbook.
Special guest artist Talya Smilowitz, Cantorial Soloist at Congregation L’dor V’dor on Long Island, will perform alongside Rabbi Neil Blumofe, Cantor Abby Gostein, Cantor Sheldon Levin, Cantorial Soloist Sarah Avner, mezzo-soprano Rebecca Braun, pianist James Maverick, double bassist Joel Braun, and clarinetist Susan Klein.
The performance will also feature choral works by Kurt Weill and Morton Gould commissioned by New York City's Park Avenue Synagogue in the 1940’s. The clergy will be joined by a choir comprised of local community members, led by conductor Jeffrey Jones-Ragona and pianist Maimy Fong.
This concert is partially underwritten by a micro-grant from Shalom Austin's J-Lead program. It is also sponsored and supported by Congregation Agudas Achim, Congregation Beth Israel, and Temple Beth Shalom.
