July STEAM Lab: Cooking with the Sun!Explore science, engineering, and problem-solving in a fun and meaningful way!
Step into the role of engineers this July and harness the power of the sun! In this hands-on lab, participants will design and build their own solar ovens using simple materials, then use them to make delicious s’mores while observing how sunlight transforms into heat energy. Kids will make predictions and test how effectively their designs capture and use solar energy.
Along the way, we’ll explore how solar energy works, how energy changes form, and why renewable energy is important for our world. It’s a bright and engaging way to combine science, engineering, and a tasty treat!
This STEAM Lab at the Prescott Valley Public Library, in partnership with Yavapai Exploration and Science, is designed for youth ages 5–12 and encourages curiosity, observation, and critical thinking—perfect for young scientists who love to experiment and explore.
