About this Event
John Roy began his career performing in independent rooms in Chicago. After honing his act in clubs around the Midwest, John was crowned the first champion and hundred thousand dollar winner on CBS' rebooted “Star Search,” in 2003.
He has appeared on numerous television shows, including “Conan,” “@midnight,” “The Tonight Show,” “The Late, Late Show” and “Last Comic Standing,”and most recently CBS, “Comics Unleashed” in 2026, as well as popular webcasts and podcasts like “Getting Doug With High,” “Harmontown,” “You Made It Weird,” and “Dumb People Town.” Most recently. John appeared on Comics Unleashed on CBS in December.2025.
John performed at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, the Just For Laughs Festival in Chicago, The Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, and Laugh Fest in Grand Rapids. John also appeared in the High Plains, Limestone, and Bridgetown Comedy Festivals.
John’s albums “Dressed for Recess,” “Alexander Hamilton,” and "Everything's Burning" received regular airplay on Sirius XM radio. In 2024, his reels on Instagram received over 3 million views.
John is a national touring headliner at top flight comedy venues across North America. In 2019, John wrote on the Freddie Mercury episode of “Historical Roasts” on Netflix. He also wrote the stand up comedy material for the 2018 movie “Love after Love” starring Chris O' Dowd and Andie McDowell.
John and his writing partner James Adomian sold two animated pilots to FX in 2017. In 2016, John wrote for @Midnight's “Trump Vs. Bernie” special on Comedy Central, which has over 8 million Youtube views. He also wrote on Jeff Dunham's “Minding The Monsters,” Comedy Central's then biggest standup special. He was a Co-Producer and Head Writer on Fusion's “Trump Vs. Bernie” TV Specials. He has written on projects for Comedy Central and MTV, Ron Howard’s 2023 IHeart Radio series Employees Only, and co-written numerous videos for Funny or Die, including the IFC web series “Maron in Space.”
John has a regular column in Vulture called “The Great Bits.” In 2020 his online comedy class was published as a book in China, the first of its kind.
General Admission doors open at 6:15, show starts promptly at 7 pm-don't be late.
NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED. Full bar on site for drinks for purchase. No kitchen. Some snacks for purchase. Due to strict requirements from the health department, we are not serving ice for drinks. However, if you want to bring your own ICE, you are welcome to.
Please note that this event is for age 18 and up. 21 and older of course allowed to drink. IDs will be checked.
