Agenda

πŸ•‘: 10:00 AM - 11:10 AM
Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP)

Info: Come and join Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP) at Lincoln University's Johnson Memorial Lab to tour their research area. Learn about a truly inspirational organisation creating positive change and the projects that ZIP is currently working on. Discover new technologies and tools to help make large areas of New Zealand Predator Free. Then students will apply their knowledge and design a predator free plan around different land use, including dense bush, alpine, rolling farmland and high-country sheep stations. This is a mixture of tour, activities and presentations.

πŸ•‘: 11:10 AM - 11:30 AM
Morning Tea (20 mins)
πŸ•‘: 11:30 AM - 12:40 PM
On-campus activities: AI, animal behaviour and careers in conservation

Info: Hosted in the new Lincoln University Science building, students will rotate around 3 quick fire modules. Each module is 20 minutes of engaging activities to get the brain thinking. Module 1: Looking at AI and how it is helping create Predator Free areas, but is AI better at identifying pests than humans? Module 2: How pest behaviour is relatable and what happens to pest behaviour over time. Module 3: A decision making game that puts students into the decision making seat and exposes to them to the community of careers that relate to conservation.

πŸ•‘: 12:40 PM - 01:10 PM
Lecture: Rat Free NZ 2050 - Fantasy or Reality?

Info: Let’s investigate some of the data and research that has occurred to figure out if a Predator Free NZ is a possibility, what are the costs and benefits, and what we don't know about these species who have lived alongside us but have been largely been ignored rather than studied. This gives students a taste of university lecturers and invites discussion about what the future in New Zealand looks like.

πŸ•‘: 01:10 PM - 01:40 PM
Study options at Lincoln University

Info: A presentation from our liaison team to introduce students to some of the study options at Lincoln University and what life could look like if they did come to Lincoln.

πŸ•‘: 01:40 PM - 01:50 PM
Wrap up = feedback survey, prizes, notices around lunch area (if staying).
πŸ•‘: 01:50 PM - 02:00 PM
