Yazmin & Beat Zero made their Crooner’s debut last year. Now they are back by popular demand, this time to the MainStage with special guest vocalist Prudence Johnson. You will be swept away by a riveting fusion of Latin-jazz, Funk and Folk/Rock, all driven by the heartfelt songwriting of Yazmin: vocalist, pianist and composer of the group. Yazmin’s songwriting is honest and soul-baring, diving into subjects such as creative burnout, finding one’s life purpose, immigration, and above all, love. Along with these original songs, Yazmin & Beat Zero also interpret familiar classics with their own twist. You may be equally called to dance or to shed a tear before the night is over.

Yazmin, who currently resides in New Orleans, LA, was born and raised in Northern Wisconsin by professional musician parents. At age 12 after attending a concert by Miami-based Cuban-jazz group Tiempo Libre, she instantly fell in love with Afro-Cuban jazz and dedicated herself wholeheartedly to learning about these rich traditions. Her passion for this music lead her to study privately for over a decade with author, educator and Latin music connoisseur Rebeca Mauleón-Santana.

Prudence Johnson’s long and happy career as a singer, writer, and teacher has landed her on the musical theatre stage, in two feature films, (A River Runs Through It, A Prairie Home Companion) national radio, (several long stints on A Prairie Home Companion) and on concert stages across North America and occasionally Europe. She has released more than a dozen recordings, including albums dedicated to the music of Hoagy Carmichael, Greg Brown, and a collection of international lullabies.
