“With maintenance trimming you can keep your horses’ feet in constant balance- the key to healthy strong feet, barefoot performance and long-term soundness.”
What will you learn? Our one-day intensive workshop is specifically designed to teach horse owners how to maintain the hooves of their own horses. All the things you can’t get online.
Subjects covered include:
* Functional anatomy of equine hooves recognising functional hooves.
* The vital importance of maintenance trimming; keeping hooves functional.
* Using anatomical landmarks to balance hooves, simply and objectively.
* Safe handling of hooves whilst trimming.
* Correct use of farrier tools including hoof stands.
* Trade secrets that make a hard job easier
* Latest and greatest sustainable hoof protection that does not affect hoof function (i.e. boots, tips and poly shoes)
* Equine lifestyle and growing better hooves.
Who are these workshops for?
All horse owners: whether they want to take over the hoof care task outright; or provide a touch up trim in between visits from the hoof care professional.
Or just learn the parameters of healthy hooves so they can make informed decisions about their horses’ hoof management. Much to learn there is!
Why are our workshops unique?
Andrew has seen equine hoof care from both sides of the anvil. After working for many years as a traditional farrier, he learnt the benefits of Barehoof Care and he now works as a specialist equine podiotherapist working with performance horses across a wide range of equestrian disciplines, using parameters that work in Australian conditions.
Not only has Andrew worked ‘down under’ thousands of horses, he also networks with vets, therapists and other trimmers Australia wide. This adds up to a huge ‘database’ of experience.
Nicky teaches horse biology, nutrition, hoof protection and trimming. Nicky runs the lameness rehabilitation and agistment centre at their home farm Mayfield and previously worked in the veterinary industry for 10 years as a practice manager and nurse.
