Known as the “Second Boston School,” these composers brought lush harmonies, lyrical lines, and homegrown spirit to the concert hall.This evening’s program shines a spotlight on two of its most compelling voices. George Whitefield Chadwick’s String Quartet No. 4 blends Brahmsian richness with a distinctly American character, while Amy Beach, the first successful woman composer of large-scale art music in the U.S., dominates the program with three stunning works. Her Three Browning Songs, beloved for their emotional depth and soaring vocal lines, open the concert with Romantic flair.
