Join us on March 10th for an evening of ambient sonic explorationAbout this Event
Join us on March 10th for an evening of ambient sonic exploration from Ashville based XOR, and locals Elabor, and Stephen Vitiello + Christine Rayburn with a special duo set.
XOR is the experimental/ambient/electronic project of Matthew Boman. Matthew lives on the eastern continental divide. He grows over a dozen fruit and nut trees. Every year, he plants more berries. He has been bitten by a copperhead and would not recommend it. XOR is a type of logic gate. It is pronounced "ex-or", not "zor." Matthew picked the name when he was learning computers because it was more flyer-friendly than "Fuck Jamz," the name he was previously recording under. While alethically nice in print, he regrets not choosing a more easily pronounceable name.
Chrystine Rayburn is a Richmond-based multimedia artist and musician who writes and performs with projects including Big Pal, Lirra Skirra, and the dance company The Little Streams. Through composition and installation, she explores the ways in which collaborative performance, electronic processing, and sound synthesis can rupture the boundaries of body, space, and technological infrastructures.
Stephen Vitiello is an electronic musician and media artist. His sound installations are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyon. Over the last 30 years, Vitiello has collaborated with such artists and musicians as Pauline Oliveros, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Taylor Deupree, Robin Rimbaud/Scanner, and Steve Roden. Recent releases include "Second," with Brendan Canty and Hahn Rowe (Balmat), and "Trinity" with Lawrence English (American Dreams).
Elabor [/eːˈlaː.bor/] Taken from Latin meaning “To slip or glide away,” Elabor is the moniker for multiinstrumentalist and performing/visual artist Eric Eckhart. Crafting sprawling and melancholic soundscapes of guitar, synthesizer, and tape-loop driven drone, Elabor’s compositions and live performances confront the listener’s expectations of duration and melody, transforming frozen moments of temporal stagnation into a sonic funeral pyre. Seating will be available for those who prefer it.
