This is a 6.5 mile evening walk to savour, starting from Wye Downs National Nature Reserve, that heads across Crundale Downs. It is an undulating route but for a short one, it packs a punch, so be prepared for some steady ascent of approximately 710 feet, plus one very steep descent. It also passes along woodland paths, bridleways and byways, also briefly on quiet country lanes. We set off into the Nature Reserve at Broad Downs that overlooks the Devil's Kneading Trough to emerge onto Coldharbour Road to pass beside Coombe Manor. We swing left through woodland making our way across to Crundale church via a track, before going steeply downhill upon reaching the edge of Viney's Wood.
The circuit takes the group along a lane, to soon take a path through Warren Wood and over to the crest of the downs to join the North Downs Way above Wye Crown. The views along this stretch of the chalk scarp are stunning en route back to our start point.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
