Eli is not the type of teacher whom only stands up front giving instructions. He will do this to start a session and for anything he feels will benefit the whole group.
However, most of your learning will come as he makes his way through the class as you train, giving individual advice to each and every student.
Saturday:
Martial Training, here we look at some of the martial training methods from Taiji.
The focus of this class will be to understand structure and movement, not so much getting into the really rough fighting stuff.
However, anyone would would like to see how something works in a full pressure fighting situation, this can still be shown, just ask.
The main focus will be Push Hands & Che Sau. Two excellent training methods done with a partner.
Both teach about reading skills and sensitivity, but one through structure and grounding, the other through softness evasion.
Putting these two skill together will give you a great understanding of Yin and Yang, for personal development as well as for the use in the self defence area.
In push hands we will learn how to maintain our balance and structure no matter which direction the push is coming from, as well as learning how to find the weak points in our partners structure.
In Che Sau we will learn how to disappear, being totally soft, never resisting the force, always folding away, giving your partner the feeling that you are not there.
We will also do some interactive pad work. This is where we learn how to strike correctly, but also learn how to miss! Learning how to miss by your pad holder moving the pad when you don't expect it, will sharpen up your balance, posture and ability to stay rooted.
Sunday:
Finding the Qi within your Taiji form.
Most people never get past the physical movements of Taiji, since there is a lot to learn in this area and it's extremely important to the overall concept of Taiji. However, during this workshop, Eli will be taking you through some training methods to help you get in touch with the internal side of the Taiji form. He will be teaching some breathing exercises to connect your movement to that super soft gentle yin energy, but also some different breathing that will help you connect to the yang fiery side. Understanding both of these is so important to ones Taiji practice, only doing one will leave you unbalanced.
There will also be a short section on how to use Qigong on another person, through something called medical Qigong, energy healing.
