Bill Frisell’s career as a guitarist and composer spans over 40 years, with a catalog hailed by Downbeat as “the best recorded output of the decade.” His latest release, Orchestras (Blue Note, April 2024), transforms the orchestral scope long present in his trio work into reality. Produced by Lee Townsend, the double album captures two concert-hall collaborations arranged by Michael Gibbs: one with the 60-piece Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Alexander Hanson, and another with the 11-piece Umbria Jazz Orchestra led by Manuele Morbidini, alongside bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Rudy Royston. Recognized as a Doris Duke Artist and recipient of numerous grants, Frisell has served as Resident Artistic Director at Jazz at Lincoln Center and SFJAZZ, been commissioned by FreshGrass, and is the subject of Emma Franz’s documentary Bill Frisell: A Portrait. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.

Petra Haden, daughter of legendary jazz bassist Charlie Haden, has spent three decades forging a restlessly eclectic and wholly unique musical career defined by creativity, versatility, and adventurous spirit. As a singer, instrumentalist, and composer, she has built a diverse discography that includes her work with the 1990 alt-rock quartet That Dog, collaborations with artists ranging from Foo Fighters and Green Day to Beck and Rufus Wainwright, and her own releases showcasing her remarkable talent for constructing complex, evocative a cappella arrangements by layering multiple tracks of her voice. Known for her playful sensibility and uplifting inventiveness, Haden’s voice and violin have become fixtures across genres, cementing her reputation as a singular force in contemporary music.
