About this Event
Discover how the Library’s collections can spark imaginative worlds and engaging narratives for young readers in this half-day workshop. Celebrated children’s author and poet Libby Hathorn will share how she used the Library’s collections to inspire her popular books Miss Franklin, A Soldier, a Dog and a Boy and The Best Cat, the Est Cat. Libby will reveal how archival discoveries have produced rich and surprising story ideas.
You’ll then explore the practical side of researching in the collections with an expert librarian. They’ll guide you through the tools and techniques that help writers uncover visual and historical sources. You’ll also have the chance to view selected gems from the collection.
The workshop concludes with a curator-led tour of our current exhibition, The Curious World of Pamela Allen. Enjoy a close look at original manuscripts, illustrations and personal materials that illuminate this renowned author’s creative process.
This workshop is perfect for children’s authors and aspiring writers as it blends inspiration with practical skills to help you imagine your next children’s story.
