three local crime and thriller writers discuss their work!
About this Event

We're incredibly excited to be welcoming local authors Susan Allott, Imran Mahmood and Anna Mazzola to Review to discuss their process writing thrillers!

All three of these fabulous writers have new novels out this year - so it's definitely time for an event that's all about crime, hauntings, murders, red herrings, twists and (naturally) turns! What draws an author to writing thrillers? How do you deal with making crime your full-time job? What are the ingredients of a successful nail-biter?

Susan Allott grew up on the south coast of England and then moved north to study English at the University of Leeds. Nominated for the 2021 New Blood Dagger, Susan’s debut, The Silence, was published by Harper Collins in August 2020, to broad critical acclaim. Described by The Wall Street Journal as ‘emotionally wrenching', it was also translated into French, Italian and Polish. Susan's new novel The House on Rye Lane is out now!

Anna Mazzola is a writer of historical thrillers and Gothic fiction. Her novels explore the impact of crime and injustice. Her debut novel, The Unseeing, won an Edgar Allan Poe award. Her third novel, The Clockwork Girl, set in Paris in 1750, is a Sunday Times Historical Fiction pick for 2022. When not writing or tutoring, Anna is a human rights and criminal justice solicitor, working with victims of crime. Her new novel The Book of Secrets is out on March 21st.

Imran Mahmood is a practicing criminal barrister in England and Wales with over thirty years’ experience fighting cases. His debut novel, You Don’t Know Me, was chosen by Simon Mayo as a BBC Radio 2 Book Club Choice for 2017, longlisted for the Theakston Crime Novel of the Year and the CWA Gold Dagger Award, and shortlisted for the Glass Bell Award. Its hugely successful television adaptation reached number three in the world on Netflix charts and received a BAFTA nomination for best actor. Mahmood was born and raised in Liverpool and now lives in London with his wife and two daughters. Imran's new novel Finding Sophie is out on March 14th.

Tickets are £5 (redeemable against a copy of any of the authors' titles on the night) and, as ever, there will be wine and soft drinks.
