About this Event

Trainers:

Amy Stone, Museum Development Officer, Museum Development South East (MDSE)

Tamsin Russell, Workforce Development Lead, Museums Association

What will be covered?

Join Amy from Museum Development South East and Tamsin Russell from the Museums Association for an introduction to the MA's Competency Framework and how to build a CPD plan for yourself or with your team.

Amy Stone, alongside being Museum Development Officer in Kent and West Sussex, is co-lead for MDSE’s workforce development programme. Her background is working in small local history museums in project and volunteer management roles.

Tamsin Russell’s career has focussed on workforce and organisational development in private and public sectors. Tamsin joined the cultural sector 23 years ago, at the Science Museum Group, then joining National Museums Scotland, Historic Environment Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland.

At the Museums Association Tamsin leads on workforce from strategy to delivery, providing career guidance, speaking on ethics, equity, and wellbeing; and leads their professional development programmes, the Associateship, the Fellowship, Mentoring for All and Online Learning. Tamsin volunteers on the Recognition Scheme Panel, the UK Accreditation Committee, and as an Executive Board Member for the Heritage Volunteers Group.

Who should attend?

This event is suitable for beginners. We hope it will be useful for anyone who is looking to structure their development (paid/unpaid) but is predominantly aimed at those looking to have a career in the sector.

Learning objectives

Participants in the workshop will have the tools to create a CPD plan for themselves and/or their team.

Eligibility

MDSE is funded by Arts Council England (ACE) to support museums in the South East of England within ACE’s Accreditation scheme. The South East is defined as the local authority areas of:

  • Bedfordshire (Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Luton Borough)
  • Berkshire (Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor & Maidenhead and Wokingham)
  • Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes

  • Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock
  • Hertfordshire
  • Kent and Medway
  • Norfolk

We prioritise places on our training programmes for museums which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation. ACE publishes the official lists of Accredited and Working Towards Accreditationmuseums on its website. Where possible we will make places available for museums which do not meet these criteria but the number of places will vary depending on the event format.
