About this Event
Writers Bench x Wet Paint
The black book is one of the most important cultural artifacts in graffiti history. It’s a sketchbook where writers develop letter styles, characters, and piece concepts before painting them in public. Long before digital tools or social media, the black book was the private laboratory of graffiti — a place to experiment with wildstyle lettering, color ideas, and new tag variations. Writers also used black books as a social document; artists would pass them around for others to leave sketches, tags, or messages, creating a record of friendships, crews, and influence across cities and generations. Continuing that tradition, WANECOD will be teaching a class and sharing stories from his experience in graffiti culture during the Writers Bench black book session, offering insight into the role these books have played in shaping style, community, and history within the movement.
