Mindful Greeting:We will begin each session with a grounding mindfulness exercise to set our intentions and create an imagination-friendly atmosphere.
Monthly Topic:
We will engage with a wide range of themes, from personal narratives to cultural expressions, providing direction for creative exploration.
Writing Support:
Participants will be given time to work on a project of their choosing. Expect a judgment-free environment where participants feel comfortable sharing their work and discussing challenges. Upon request, participants will receive support as needed to deal with creative blocks such as imposter syndrome, anxiety, and other challenges that hinder creativity. Writers will be equipped with tools to overcome obstacles, promoting resilience and confidence in their creative endeavors.
About the Workshop Leader:
Phillip Tucker, a Knoxville native, is a compassionate therapist and community leader deeply rooted in his East Knoxville upbringing. Graduating cum laude with dual bachelor's degrees in Psychology and English Literature from the University of Tennessee, he pursued a Master's in Professional Counseling/Marriage and Family Therapy from Johnson University. As a board member of Drums Up Guns Down, he contributes to reducing community gun violence through African drumming. Phillip is also involved with the Alliance of Integrated Awareness, promoting equitable mental healthcare access. As captain of Black Men Run Knoxville, he inspires physical fitness within the community through walking and running culture to support the physical and mental health of Black men
