Every year, thousands of people write letters to show solidarity and support for individuals whose rights have been violated—or protest letters to the authorities who violated them!
Come to our writing workshop—Amnesty activists will provide writing materials, informational literature, and gingerbread cookies. You can learn more about Amnesty International's work and what you yourself can do to contribute. This is a great activity suitable for adults and children.
In this year's Write for Rights (Skriv for Liv), we highlight three individuals—journalists and commentators—who have been punished for using their freedom of expression and standing up for justice.
🇹🇳 Sonia Dahmani A Tunisian lawyer and commentator who was imprisoned after criticizing the authorities and conditions in the country's prisons.
🇲🇲 Sai Zaw Thaike Photojournalist Sai Zaw Thaike showed the world the suffering after a natural disaster and was sentenced to 20 years of forced labor.
🇦🇿 Nargiz Absalamova In June 2025, Nargiz was sentenced to eight years in prison for her coverage of injustice, environmental protests, and women's rights.
