Would you DIE for your Catalogue? Diversity, Inclusion and Ethical Cataloguing / a joint MDG-MDGS in-person seminar in Edinburgh.
About this Event

MDGS, the Metadata and Discovery Group in Scotland, in collaboration with MDG, warmly invites you to a full, one-day seminar to be held in Edinburgh, on Wednesday 17th July in the Boardroom of the National Library of Scotland on George IV Bridge. Would you DIE for your Catalogue? is going to be a thought-provoking and interesting day, based around the topics of Diversity, Inclusion and Ethics. We have a fascinating programme of talks lined up, culminating in a workshop on the Ethics of Cataloguing.

The morning programme consists of a range of presentations, from EDI-friendly subject headings for children's literature at the University of Strathclyde, the introduction of inclusive terminology at the Moving Image Archive, through to the implementation of an Inclusive Collections Statement at the University of Leicester and an overview of the work of the SCURL EDI Network.

The afternoon will consist of an introduction to the Ethics of Cataloguing by Diane McAdie, Professor of Social Informatics at Edinburgh Napier University, followed by the workshop. This will be led Jane Daniels, former Chair of MDG (Metadata and Discovery Group) and Diane, both members of the Cataloging Ethics Steering Committee and instrumental in the development of the Cataloguing Code of Ethics. This is a updated version of the workshop held at the 2023 MDG Conference in Birmingham.

This will be a fascinating day, and I hope that you will join us in an event designed to make you think about EDI, see how different institutions have started implementing it, and take away ideas which you might be able to use at your own library.

A sandwich lunch and refreshments will be provided.
