A Service of Word based on Matthew 3:13-17 The Bible was written in a time when few people could actually read. As a result, scripture was often heard, not read, and learned by heart. With today’s widespread literacy, people are able to read the Bible. While this makes God’s Word more accessible, it also means that the emotional impact is often muted in Bible study. Join us on Sunday as we look at why emotions are so important to the spiritual life, and how Jesus is showing us how to play with God.
Points to Ponder
Read Matthew 3:13-17. How do you imagine John the Baptist felt being approached by Jesus for a baptism? How do you imagine Jesus felt being affirmed by God at the end?
Why do you think is it important to read the Bible with emotion? Why is emotion important in worship?
What is play, and why is it important in worship? Why is it important in daily life?
Challenge
Take note of your emotions through the day.
