Commemorate World Tai Chi and Qigong Day with us on April 25, 2026 from about 9 am to 1 pm. On this day, practitioners from all around the world gather in public spaces to celebrate and practice various styles of Tai Chi Chuan and Qigong. It’s free and open to everyone.
Where:
Meet at the Emmarentia Botanical Garden, use the Thomas Bowler entrance and find us near the Hugenot Memorial close to the Rose Garden.
What to expect:
If you've ever wanted to try Tai Chi and Qigong, this event is for you. If you are an experienced practitioner, then come and try Qigong sets and Tai Chi forms that you may not have encountered before.
We're coming together in the spirit of fun and our mutual passion for this martial art. You're welcome to participate for the entire morning, join in whenever something catches your interest, or simply observe. Feel free to follow along with other practitioners.
No prior experience is necessary.
If you post video or photos on social media, we would love it if you tagged us. #taichisouthafrica or #taichisa or tag your school/instructor’s social media account.
What to bring:
Bring a folding chair or picnic blanket, a water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Toilets / Amenities:
There are toilets nearby at the Thomas Bowler entrance to the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens.
Indemnity:
Although Tai Chi and Qigong are slow and gentle exercises, note that all persons who, observe or participate, do so at their own risk and waive all claims in this regard against Tai Chi South Africa and its instructors and/or their respective representatives, whether for bodily injury, or loss of, or damage to, property by any cause whatsoever including (gross) negligence. Any person(s) accompanying or in control of a minor or a person with limited capacity, indemnify/ies (where more than one person, jointly and severally), Tai Chi South Africa and its instructors and/or their respective representatives against any such aforesaid claim by such minor or person. Members of the public participate at their own risk
If you suffer from a health condition or have an injury, it is advised that you seek medical attention prior to the beginning of the practice of Tai Chi or Qigong.
