About this Event
The Biwa is an ancient Japanese string instrument used for centuries as a musical accompaniment to storytelling.
Ever since the medieval era in Japan, wandering Biwa musicians were the storytellers of their time, catching the imagination of ordinary folk with tales of heroism, love and intrigue.
Yoko Hiraoka, with a slide presentation, brings the stories to life as they have been sung for centuries, with singing voice and a dynamic and expressive biwa accompaniment.
