“The labyrinth literally reintroduces the experience of walking a clearly defined path. This reminds us that there is a path, a process that brings us to unity, to the center of our beings. In the simple act of walking, the soul finds solace and peace.” ~ Rev. Lauren Artress
CELEBRATE WORLD LABYRINTH DAY at Rolling Ridge on Saturday, May 2nd!
Join trained labyrinth facilitator Judy Smith for a workshop learning about labyrinths as we study their ancient origins and meanings in various cultures as paths of reflection, prayer, and healing for over 4000 years. We will explore why we walk a labyrinth, the benefits of walking a labyrinth, and various approaches to the labyrinth realizing there are many ways and traditions for walking.
A labyrinth is a walking meditation by fingers or feet, a path of prayer, and an archetypal blueprint. A labyrinth has only one path that leads to the center. There are no tricks or dead ends in a labyrinth. Unlike a maze where one can lose their way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way.
In this Day Apart retreat, you will experience first-hand the calming and peaceful rhythms of the labyrinth by participating in a finger labyrinth meditation using handheld labyrinths during our morning session and then later walking a labyrinth with our feet either on Rolling Ridge’s canvas labyrinth and the outdoor labyrinths on the grounds of Rolling Ridge. Instructions for drawing your own labyrinth from a seed pattern will be offered.
With Saturday, May 2 being World Labyrinth Day, we will join with people all over the world as we “Walk as One at 1” creating a rolling wave of peaceful energy throughout the world’s time zones. After a delicious lunch at noon, we will proceed to the outdoor labyrinth at Rolling Ridge for a guided walk for peace. After reflections of our group walk for peace, we will close our time together with a closing labyrinth blessing.
We do not want costs to limit participation. Thus, there is no registration fee for this event. It is being offered "by donation" with Judy Smith volunteering her time. Please pay whatever you can afford. The suggested gift is $25 to cover the meal. However, if you are able to give more to help offset expenses for another person, we would appreciate the generosity. Thank you.
