"Embodying Rebellion: The Art of Raï Dance"
Algerian Rai Dance Workshop:
Step into the world of Raï, Algeria's "rebel blues," with Algerian-American dance artist Esraa Warda in this immersive dance workshop. Raï, a musical genre deeply rooted in subversion, exile, love, and loss, has served as the voice of marginalized North Africans, both in Algeria and across its diaspora.
This session is more than just a dance class; it’s an exploration of the resilience and artistry of people who have long used music and movement to challenge power structures.
Participants will engage with the rhythms, foundational movements, and footwork of Raï - connecting to embodied cultural knowledge through the body.

OPEN LEVEL - ALL LEVELS WELCOME
*Wear comfortable clothes and light indoor dance shoes or barefoot. Bring a regular scarf that you can tie around your waist. It is strongly recommended to NOT use noisy coin belts.
