  • What is FHIR and why should I care? - FHIR for Business Leaders: 9am to 10.30am

Want to know what FHIR is? Want to understand more about FHIR, but you are not a software engineer? Want to know why your business should be considering you FHIR strategy? Want to know why your team requests to go to FHIR Connectathons? What is Sparked anyway and why should I care?This session is for you. A 90-minute session to hear from the FHIR Product Director for Hl7 International - Grahame Grieve, as well as FHIR Experts and Industry Leaders. This will be both an opportunity for a high-level overview, but more importantly as chance for a Q&A and more informal dialogue to learn from the experts and share with each other in the room.

How can we leverage high-quality data capture for better population insights? Join us to explore how the Sparked FHIR Accelerator, OMOP, and SQL on FHIR are strengthening data quality, interoperability, and large-scale analytics.FHIR is transforming how clinical data is structured and exchanged, enabling more consistent, standards-based data capture and real-time interoperability. HL7 Australia, in collaboration with the Australian Digital Health Agency, is excited to feature a deep‑dive session on the Health Connect Australia Provider Directory and Authorisation Service, exploring key components of Australia’s evolving national health information exchange program. This session will walk through the Health Connect Provider Directory FHIR IG, share the latest insights from community testing, and provide an update on the national digital health authorisation service. We’ll also provide updates on FHIR endpoint work, unpack emerging approaches to syndication, and open the floor for an extended community Q&A. If you’re working with FHIR, digital health standards, or national infrastructure, this is a conversation you’ll want to be part of.


Participants will take part in focused work group discussions, supporting alignment, shared understanding, and coordinated development across standards initiatives.

This workshop provides an important opportunity for meaningful discussion, coordination, and community engagement—setting the stage for a productive March Connectathon.
